J. R. R. Tolkien on marriage

Nearly all marriages, even happy ones, are mistakes: in the sense that almost certainly (in a more perfect world, or even with a little more care in this very imperfect one) both partners might be found more suitable mates. But the real soul-mate is the one you are actually married to.


Katrina sent this to me. It comes quite close to some of my thoughts on marriage. Well, especially the first part - we'll have to work on the second part…

Well, I'm happy to say it, even though we're not married yet. I would have said something along those lines to her before (although not as nicely as JRRT). Aren't I romantic?
